Tork-T6X: future of Indian electric motorcycling
Tork Motorcycles, an Indian company, the Pune-based startup, will introduce India’s first electric motorcycle – Tork T6X. The Tork Motorcycles also plans to introduce multiple electric motorcycles. The bikes in the lineup . After building five successful prototypes so far such as Tork-TX0 01, Tork-TX0 02, Tork-TX0 03, Tork-TX0 04 & Tork-TX0 05, Tork Motorcycles built its sixth bike ,which is the first electric motorcycle in the form of the T6X in the Indian market.
India’s first electric motorcycle startup, Tork is founded by by Kapil Shelke, a mechanical engineer by trade and racing nut by passion .The company has setup a manufacturing unit at Chakan near Pune. It aims to sell 10,000 units in the first year.
The Tork Motorcycles’s T6X is undergoing scrupulous testing & certification procedures. The company plans to have a fully working on this 30th of September-2016.The production ready version of the T6X is slated to be launched in 5 days (as on 25th september-2016). Tork made its debut when they scored a podium finish at the TTXGP-The Electric TT race @ Isle of Man in 2009. But, Kapil Shelke & his team-mate have been making changes & constantly upgrading electric racing motorcycles for TTXGP & TT-ZERO races. Also in 2012, the company entered the 400-metre drag race at Valley Run, which is their first small capacity electric motorbike,which is built on the Yamaha FZ, which recorded 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.7 seconds.
Kapil Shelke, the founder of Tork Motorcycles, said “The beauty of the T6X have been designed keeping in mind for the needs of Indian markets & Electric Two-wheelers are usually associated with a ridiculous appearance,”.
Recently, this Pune-based company gets funds to build electric motorcycles in India, from angel investors which also includes the founders of Ola-cabs Bhavish Agarwal & Ankit Bhati, along with a group of angels led by the co-founder & CEO of CoCubes , Harpreet Grover.

Tork Motorcycles had chosen a best time to get success in kick start of their project as the rising public concern over the pollution caused by internal combustion(IC) powered vehicles has brought in various GOVT. initiatives such as NEMMP–‘National Electric Mobility Plan’ by 2020 & FAME–‘Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of hybrid & Electric Vehicles’ in India to boost-up innovation and interest in electric vehicles in the country.
