India has decided to hopp from BCIV emission norms to BSVI emission norms by 2020. which means that the vehicle manufacturers will have to upgrade their engines to acrimonious emission norms.
Latest reports suggests that Royal Enfield has stated a programme on rework of their entire engine segment, which is called as Engine Development Program.the bikes will be updated to meet the upcoming emission norms.The Royal Enfield is a century machine which is getting upgraded to emission norms. all their existing as well as upcoming engines will be updated to new emission norms.The Royal Enfield will get this new engine updates which will increase its fuel-economy also!!.
Sad thing was the latest Royal Enfield Himalayan is only BS III compliant, which launched earlier this year.while dealers opposed to sale all-new model from Royal Enfield,but later on it was allowed to market/sale in Indian road.
Royal Enfield offers 4-diiferent engine segment:
- Continental GT with 535 cc
- Thunderbird with 500 cc
- Classic and Bullet Range
- Himalayan 410 cc
- Thunderbird with 350 cc
Where all this engine will be upgraded under this new Engine Development Program.

Royal Enfield is already working on a new twin-cylinder Engine, rumored to be in the range of 600-750cc.where It is a modified cafe racer platform of existing Continental-GT test bike which was recently spied in Europe while testing. This new engine is expected to be BS-VI Emission norms.
