Recently, India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd. (IKM) made an announcement that they will be sold and After sales service will also be undertaken by the Kawasaki’s network in India.According to reports, IKM is planning to set up a motorcycle assembly plant in Pune-Chakan.
When Kawasaki was under the alliance, Bajaj Auto was responsible for sales and after-sales service of Kawasaki motorcycles in India in the name of Probiking since 2008. On April 1, 2017, Kawasaki broke its 8-year old alliance with Bajaj Auto in the Indian market. KTM’s entry into the Indian market, Bajaj Probiking focused more on KTM brands in many KTM dealerships.KTM Duke made its entry in 2012. Now KTM Duke and RC bikes are currently sold at 300+ KTM dealerships in India and company expected to extend to 500+ by the end of this year. This was may be the primary reason to calling off of Bajaj and Kawasaki alliance.
Kawasaki hasn’t yet confirmed the about rumours of the new plant. However, Yutaka Yamashita- Kawasaki’s managing director – Made a notification that an official announcement soon in the future. The Kawasaki’s 300cc and 650 cc bikes are being sold as CKD and more displacements were sold as CBUs-direct imports. The CKD bikes are being assembled inside the Bajaj Auto Chakan plant. As per the report as of now, Kawasaki wants to walk out of bajaj plant and set up their own plant.
If company setups new plant then it will be good news for buyers. Because the price of their motorcycle might get reduced. At present Kawasaki is paying Bajaj for the assembly and others chargers. This new Kawasaki’s plant will make the company not to pay anything to Bajaj. The report reveals that Kawasaki will have total control over operations right from procurement of spares, quality checks, finishing, sales and after sales service.
